FEDERATION (Hoylake. Aug. 30). The ketch Federation, Chester, Liverpool for
Mostyn, sunk off Little Hilbre after grounding.
[from Cheshire Observer - Saturday 01 September 1923]:
CHESTER VESSEL'S PLIGHT. The jigger-flat Federation, of Chester,
which was proceeding from Liverpool to Mostyn with a cargo of iron
ore, had her sails blown away, and eventually got on the rocks on one
of the Hilbre Islands. Two men hung on to the rigging till daybreak,
when the flat was dry, and they then walked across to the main land
and reported themselves.
