What is the structure of the Honours Year?

In the Honours Year, you will study one area of biology intensively. (The exceptions are Combined and Joint Honours degrees where two subjects are studies in depth.) You will again take eight-points of modules, but modules will be of different weighting.  All Honours courses will contain a number of compulsory (core) components, along with options (The exception is Marine Biology, where all parts of the course are compulsory).  An individual research project is a compulsory part of every Honours degree.  The optional modules allow you to follow selected topics in more detail, the choice of topics being related to your interests and background.  You may be able to take an optional module from a different Honours School, with the agreement of your Honours Director.  If you are considering this, you must discuss it with your Honours Director in June.

The organisation and timetabling of each Honours programme is different, to best suit its subject material.  You will be provided with a detailed timetable at the start of your Honours Year.  This document aims to provide an overview to assist you with your final choice of Honours School.
