Appendix E

Students with temporary or permanent disabilities

The University’s Student Welfare Adviser is responsible for advising disabled students about access to courses and buildings and for requesting any special provisions needed at written examinations. Appointments to see her can be made at the Student Services Centre, adjacent to the Guild (Building No. 36 on the University map).

The School will, as far as is feasible, assist disabled students wishing to register for its courses.

Students with medically certified disabilities should give a copy of such certificates to their personal tutors at the start of studies, for future reference purposes.

Every item of coursework submitted for assessment from students with writing disabilities (e.g. dyslexia) should be accompanied by a copy of the disability certification, so that due allowances can be made in the award of marks. If lecturers are unsure how to proceed when assessing such coursework, they will seek advice from the student’s personal tutor, and if necessary, Student Welfare Adviser.
