Language Component of C1T2 Course

In Year 3 students who are following the C1T2 course take 7 units of the Honours Specialism and 1 unit in the chosen language.

The aims and objectives of the language component (French, German or Spanish) are to consolidate the level of fluency achieved during the year abroad, to build on the written skills and grammatical knowledge acquired during Years 1 and 2, and to improve the skills necessary for the students’ professional life.

Each student will work on a broad range of topics chosen for the scientific content to suit the student’s individual specialism and to broaden his/her awareness of international issues. The topics provide a stimulus for developing the following skills: speaking, writing, aural comprehension, translation and IT (opportunity provided to write a web-page). A variety of teaching methods incorporating audio and video cassettes, satellite television and computer-aided language packages are used.

The unit will be assessed by means of continuous assessment. The final mark is based on a series of Class Assignments (50%) and Class Tests (50%). As in previous years all key language skills are assessed during the student’s final year.
