Bien Tan was born in Enshi City, China, in 1971. He received his B.Sc. in chemistry in 1993 and M.Sc in 1996 from Hubei University in Wuhan, China. He received his Ph.D. in 1999 from the College of Materials at South China University of Technology. He then joined in Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials for postdoctoral research in National Laboratory of Advanced Composites. He is currently working as PDRA under the director of Dr Andrew I Cooper at the University of Liverpool.
