HEAD OF DEPARTMENT EYE AND VISION SCIENCE

The University of Liverpool is looking to appoint an academic leader with a strong research profile to lead the Department of Eye and Vision Sciences. The Department sits within the institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences, one of four institutes within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. This is a fantastic opportunity to take leadership of an impressive department within a well-respected Institute and Faculty.

The appointee will be joining a small but well-respected and nationally competitive Eye and Visions Sciences department. One that works across a variety of research ranging from molecular and genetics fundamentals to data and imaging analysis. The department is recognised for this breadth of research. The Department also works across other institutions working in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, the Liverpool Cancer Research Institute and the School of Engineering.

The Head of Department will forge connections across the Institute, the Faculty and the University. They will be instrumental in engendering an environment where staff feel they can work together on research, there is a team approach to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and staff feel they are supported in development and progression. The appointee will be leading one of the smaller departments within the faculty, one which has real room to grow. The department currently has a good cohort of middle-career academics, who thrive under continued support.

The department works closely with St Paul’s Eye Unit. Providing resources and help to their research-based care. This also allows the department to conduct clinical studies more easily as the Unit is across the road. It is also desirable for the successful candidate to have a personal interest in the delivery of teaching as well as being able to recognise and encourage its importance within the Department.
