The University of Liverpool is seeking an exceptional Head of Philanthropy to lead on major, individual and legacy giving efforts. The postholder will also manage a personal fundraising portfolio (focused on £1 million+ gift opportunities). They will be responsible for forging impactful philanthropic relationships, inspiring their team to reach ambitious fundraising goals, and establishing strong working relationships with senior stakeholders, academics and volunteers. A seasoned relationship fundraiser with significant major gift success, the Head of Philanthropy will assume responsibility for all individual giving efforts.
This is a new role which will enable the postholder to drive significant income growth. There is a new DART strategy in place, and agreement for significant investment to expand the team over the next few years. This is a timely opportunity to transform the scale of individual giving at the University of Liverpool. Reporting to the Associate Director of Development, you will be part of the Development leadership team along with another new role, Head of Trusts and Corporate Philanthropy.
A skilled strategist and planner, the successful candidate will partner with University leadership and the Development and Alumni Relations Team to design and implement fundraising plans to help to achieve the University’s ambitious vision. The Head of Philanthropy will combine energy and enthusiasm with metrics and rigorous processes to keep the major, individual and legacy gift programme on track and aligned with overall development goals. As the Head of Philanthropy, you will be fundraiser, mentor and manager, with the ability to assess strengths, talent, and needs of individuals and teams. Someone who leads by example, the ideal candidate will have a track record of closing significant gifts and will apply this experience to a portfolio of prospects at Liverpool.
Landmark projects such as the global Pandemic Institute, the Campus Transformation programme and a forthcoming 150th anniversary campaign offer enormous scope for diverse new partnerships, supported by additional investment in the team from 2024. Simply, this is a rare opportunity for an outstanding fundraiser to enable a step-change in income generation in a leading Russell Group institution with tremendous links and connections to develop.
Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Jones, took up his position in January 2023 – creating new opportunities for donor engagement - and we are immersed in planning for our anniversary campaign; this is an exciting moment to join the University of Liverpool with enormous fundraising potential.
