Getting Ready

Information on how to register with the University, activate your computing account and where you can find your timetable for Welcome Week.

University induction

We strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all our students. Being part of our University community brings with it responsibilities, and as a University of Liverpool student, we ask you to follow certain rules and standard in terms of behaviour and conduct.

Before you join us, you will receive an email from about completing your University induction.

Activating your computing account

You can activate your computing account before arriving on campus by visiting our Computing Services website. You will need your student ID number – you will find this in your welcome pack.

Activating your account will provide you with your University email address, your username, and access to the many IT services and resources essential to your student experience such as the Digital University and VITAL – the University’s virtual learning environment.

Academic registration, stage 1 and 2

Academic Registration is the process of collecting and confirming your personal and academic information.

You should start your academic registration online before you arrive at the University through our Liverpool Life portal. You will receive an email telling you when you can start this process – we expect this to be around 30 August

Upload your photo

You will need your student card to use the library, access printing facilities and take advantage of the loyalty and reward scheme across university-managed cafes, bars and restaurants. So that we can provide you with your student card during Welcome Week, you will need to upload a passport-sized photo as part of your academic registration on Liverpool Life before midnight on 4 September.

Read our guide to uploading your photo to Liverpool life.

Your photo should:

  • Be a jpg file, no larger than 1 MB in size
  • Show your full face, without sunglasses, glare on any glasses, or hair or head scarf etc across the face
  • Not include anyone else in the frame.

Check out your Welcome Week timetable

Your department will publish your timetable for Welcome Week on their welcome webpages. We run a wide range of activities throughout Welcome Week (16-22 September), all designed to help you find your way around the campus, learn how to use key facilities, find out about all the amazing opportunities to get involved in university life, and make new friends.

Accommodation offers

If you have applied for University accommodation, the Accommodation team will begin allocating accommodation from Monday 19 August, so keep an eye on your email.

You will need to access Liverpool Life in order to accept your accommodation offer and you will have 24 hours to do so. It is, therefore, a good idea to check you can access Liverpool Life as soon as possible. If you are having problems accessing Liverpool Life, please email the Liverpool Life helpdesk at

To safeguard your health it is important that you visit your doctor before arriving at University to check your vaccinations are up-to-date. Illnesses like measles, mumps, rubella and meningitis are rare but can be serious. University students are recommended to receive both the MMR and Meningitis ACWY vaccines.
