St Brigid's Arms

Step into St Brigid’s Arms, an immersive exhibition exploring the experiences of women of Irish heritage in the North of England, from Saturday 3 October 2026 to Saturday 17 April 2027.

Set within a fictional Irish pub and recreated family home, the exhibition brings together oral histories, visual art, music, dance and film to share powerful stories of identity, migration, heritage and belonging.

The exhibition has been co-created by artist and art psychotherapist Lydia O’Hara and Rosarie Walsh of Emerald LENS, a female-led Community Interest Company, dedicated to uncovering and sharing the untold stories of underrepresented communities across the north of England.

Developed through a programme of creative workshops with women from Irish communities in Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds, St Brigid’s Arms celebrates voices that are too often absent from the historical record.

St Brigid’s Arms is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Irish Studies, with contributions from a network of community and cultural partners including Liverpool Irish Festival, Stretford Public Hall, HEART Headingley, Irish Community Care Manchester & Liverpool, Leeds Irish Health & Homes, Leeds Irish Arts Foundation and the Consulate General of Ireland in Manchester.
