Travelling by car

Visitors, including coach parties, may be dropped off on Brownlow Hill where there is a dropped kerb, just past the traffic lights and crossing outside of the VG&M entrance, opposite the Alsop Building.

Parking

There is no on-site parking but several pay and display car parks are located nearby.

  • University of Liverpool Visitor car park situated on Mount Pleasant, next to the Sports Centre
  • Mount Pleasant Car Park (L3 5TR)
  • Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Car Park (L3 5TQ)
  • Brownlow Street (L3 5DA).

Travelling by public transport

Train

The nearest train stations are Liverpool Lime Street and Liverpool Central. Both are a 15-minute walk away. Use Merseyrail or National Rail to plan your journey. 

Travelling from Lime Street, Brownlow Hill is reached by turning left after the Adelphi Hotel. Please be aware that the road has a steep gradient. Brownlow Hill is a main route through the city and can be quite noisy with heavy traffic. There are pedestrian crossings at all of the main road junctions on the way up.

As you travel up Brownlow Hill, the Victoria Building with its distinctive red brick and clock tower can be seen at the top of Brownlow Hill on the left-hand side, opposite a small row of shops.

Bus

From the city centre, buses 14 and 79 go up Brownlow Hill around every 5 minutes. The buses leave from the side of the Adelphi Hotel at the bottom of Brownlow Hill and stop outside the Victoria Gallery & Museum at the top of Brownlow Hill.
