We accept around eight to ten graduates each year for postgraduate training by research to PhD level. The normal duration of the programme is three years full-time, although it is possible to be accepted as a part-time student.
For entry to the programme you will be expected to have obtained or to be about to obtain a good (2:i or above) Honours degree in a biological or biomedical science from a British university, a degree in Medicine or an international degree at an equivalent level.
The programme aims to provide an up-to-date training in research techniques within the framework of an original research project in one of the areas of staff research interests. You will register for an MPhil degree in the first year of the programme, with subsequent transfer to PhD on satisfactory completion of two reports and a short seminar. A further requirement is the presentation of a full seminar in the final year. There is a well-developed scheme for monitoring progress and providing academic support.
