Carbohydrate active proteins
My research focus is on carbohydrate active proteins with a particular emphasis on how these proteins function in the context of the human gut microbiota (HGM). The HGM is an essential competent of human physiology and carbohydrate degradation is critical to its proper functioning and thus, human health. My research uses a mixture of enzymology, structural biology, cellular methods and genetics to elucidate the mechanisms of carbohydrate degradation by the HGM, and how this could be used to benefit human health.
