Clincal Trials Units (CTU) provide advice and participate throughout the research process, including the early development of research proposals in study design and methodology and funding applications through to project delivery and reporting. CTU provide expertise in trial design, costing, contracts, conduct, analysis, information systems, randomisation, patient public involvement and health economics, regulations and publications at each stage of the trial process supporting each activity demonstrated by the Clinical Trials toolkit.

Methodological Expertise

Researchers are strongly encouraged to contact a CTU early in the process of developing research ideas and preparing funding applications. Funding bodies regard CTU as an important component of any research application.  CTRC receive NIHR CTU Support Funding that is intended to strengthen the capacity for designing and conducting clinical trials and other evaluation studies to support applications and projects.

Applications for support are made directly with CTRC. At this stage a study outline is required. Investigators are advised to contact the relevant Clinical Studies Group or National Speciality Group to gain feedback on their outline. CTRC Organogram
