As part of our application process, applicants are normally required to attend an Applicant Interview and Music Experience Day where you will either have an interview or a short audition with an academic member of staff. This is your chance to demonstrate your passion for the subject and allow us to make a decision on your application. (There is an option for phone or Skype interviews).
|A level requirements||ABB. Offer may be reduced to BBB for those candidates achieving grade 8 distinction in any instrument. (this is the typical entry requirement) for this course.
|Subject requirements||To include A level Music or A level Music Technology grade B, or ABRSM Grade 8 in Music Theory at Distinction. If an applicant is taking grade 8 in any instrument (or singing), a dual offer can be made: ABB or BBB with grade 8 Distinction. Some of our optional modules require academic demonstration of ability.|
|BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma||BTEC applications are encouraged. We evaluate each BTEC application on its merits and may make offers at DDM.|
|International Baccalaureate||33 including Higher Level 6 in Music, with no score less than 4|
|Irish Leaving Certificate||H1, H2, H2, H2, H3, H3 including H2 in Music|
|Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher||Scottish Highers at AABBB plus Scottish Advanced Highers grade B in Music or Music Technology, combinations are also welcome.|
|Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced||Accepted including 2 A levels at BB (including Music or Music Technology)|
|Access||Not acceptable without an A level in Music or Music Technology, or ABRSM Theory Grade 8|

|Extended Project Qualification||Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be ABB or BBB plus A in the EPQ.
Please note that Humanities and Social Sciences Honours Select programmes which have a Management, Law or Sociology component will not accept the EPQ.
Alternative entry requirements
Contextual offers pilot
For 2021 entry, we are piloting the use of contextual offers for applicants offering a 2-grade reduction* from the standard offer for the following under-represented groups:
- Students from English neighbourhoods with historically low participation in Higher Education (known as POLAR 4 Quintile 1 postcodes, after the dataset used by the Office for Students to track this metric)
- UK Care Experienced students (ie qualifying students who have spent any amount of time in Local Authority care and meet associated eligibility criteria used nationally)
*Please note, programmes in Medicine and Dentistry are currently excluded from this pilot.
