In response to feedback from schools and colleges we work with, and in line with our commitment to fair and flexible admissions, we are extending the deadline to apply for Undergraduate programmes at the University of Liverpool, to Friday 12 February 2021.
Our extension sits alongside our comprehensive financial support offer which aims to ensure that finances do not act as a barrier to a University of Liverpool degree. Our financial support includes:
- Access to a range of bursaries including the Liverpool Bursary – which benefits a third of our UK undergraduate students.
- An accommodation discount of £800 for students in receipt of a qualifying widening access bursary and who choose to live in our Halls.
- The allocation of an additional £1million into our hardship fund which is accessible to all students experiencing genuine and unforeseen financial difficulty.
We recognise that students planning to start university in 2021 have experienced disruption to their studies and their families may have been impacted financially as a result of the pandemic. Whatever your situation, choosing when and where to begin your university education will be an important decision so we hope this extension gives you a little more time to explore your options.
What this means for you?
This means that the equal consideration deadline set by UCAS (extended for 2021 entry to 29 January) does not apply to the University of Liverpool. Students applying to Liverpool can still benefit from equal consideration if they apply on or before the 12 February. However, please note that if you are applying to other institutions as well as the University of Liverpool, you should ensure that you do make your application by 29 January.
- This excludes applications for medicine, veterinary medicine/science, dentistry, which must have been submitted by 15 October.
- Individual schools/colleges may be working to earlier internal deadlines but the University of Liverpool remains open to applications being submitted throughout this period (up to the 12 February). If you have already submitted your application to us, you don’t need to take any further action.
If you miss the February deadline, you can still apply to study at the University of Liverpool via UCAS Extra or through Clearing.
For 2021 entry, the University is engaging a new contextual admissions strategy, this will allow applicants from the most under-represented backgrounds to receive a two grade reduced offer. Learn more about how we use contextual data to make offers.
The UCAS application deadline for International/EU students is unchanged and remains the 30 June 2021. However, if your school adheres strictly to the UCAS deadline for equal consideration of 29 January, then as stated above, you can now make an application with us up until Friday 12 February 2021.
Changes to exams in 2021
Following the announcement that 2021 English and Northern Irish A level exams will not go ahead as planned, and earlier decisions around Scottish and Welsh qualifications, we are awaiting guidance on what form assessment will take. The joint Department for Education and Ofqual consultations on the assessment of Summer 2021 exams and qualifications includes reference to private candidates and vocational qualifications in addition to A/AS levels and GCSEs. We will continue to process applications as normal and if further information is required once the outcome of the consultations is released we will contact applicants directly.
We are absolutely committed to ensuring that our admissions processes are fair, and that our applicants are not disadvantaged by the change to examinations. We will be in regular contact with all our applicants to keep you informed as our position is confirmed and information will be updated here.
Applying for accommodation
The new application deadline does not impact on your opportunity to benefit from our guaranteed accommodation promise. Should you be made an offer from us and become an Unconditional Firm (UF) or Conditional Firm (CF) student you will be guaranteed accommodation at the University of Liverpool or within University Approved accommodation, so long as you apply before 31 July 2021. Find out more about applying for accommodation.
Financing your studies
We have demonstrated our continued commitment to our students by investing £1million into our hardship fund and we are committed to keeping the financial needs of our students under review in future years. Find out everything you need to know about financing your studies.
We encourage you to browse our Virtual Open Day content to get a flavour of what we have to offer at Liverpool. You can watch recordings from all of our subject areas, learn about our accommodation and speak directly to our students, via the Unibuddy platform to get their views on studying here.
We recommend using this extra time to consider your options, do your research and apply to the universities you feel are the best fit for you.
