Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
The University of Liverpool has been at the forefront of Health & Life Sciences research for 130 years and continues to build on the impressive research knowledge, experience, resources and partnerships that have been amassed. The Faculty has over 2,300 staff, 6,000 undergraduates and 1,000 postgraduate students who, together with many alumni and partners, are helping to build the University’s reputation every day.
As a Faculty of Health and Life Sciences in a civic university, we owe it to our local community to address their unmet health needs. We're taking the innovative, world-leading research we do globally and delivering a meaningful impact on health outcomes locally.
The total cost of research projects awarded in 2018/19 within the Faculty was £60million, and 81% of our research is ranked world-leading and internationally excellent.
The Faculty has four Institutes:
- Institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences
- Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences
- Institute of Population Health
- Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology.
School of Dentistry
The School of Dentistry in Liverpool is one of the largest dental school outside London. With our extensive research activities we can offer you tremendous postgraduate study opportunities.
Our programmes range from short professional update courses for dental practitioners to full-time, research-led postgraduate courses, at levels including MPhil, PhD and MD.
As a Postgraduate student you'd train on NHS patients at the Liverpool University Dental Hospital (LUDH). The hospital has over 160 dental units and you can access over 60,000 patient contacts.
Research overview
The Doctorate in Dental Science programme provides a 3-year Doctoral level programme in following pathways:
- Orthodontics
- Endodontics
- Special Care Dentistry
- Paediatric Dentistry
The programme has core modules common for all pathways and specialty modules specific to each pathway. Both core and specialty modules have been designed to fulfil the DDSc programme aims and learning outcomes, and the external frameworks for the specialty specific pathway.
