Master of Architecture MArch

  • Programme duration: Full-time: 24 months

  • Entry requirements: You'll need a 2.1 Bachelors degree (with Honours) or better. All applicants must have RIBA part 1 as pre-requisite.

Entry requirements

To be offered a place on the programme, you will normally need to have a Bachelors degree (with Honours) at 2.1 level or better in Architecture. Candidates who do not meet these requirements will be considered on their individual merits and should discuss their particular circumstances with the Programme Director.

All applicants must have RIBA part 1 as a pre-requisite. Applicants from other schools must submit a portfolio consisting of 10 pages of images from their final year project.


Master of Architectural Design at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU)

For candidates who do not meet the criteria for consideration for the MArch degree at the University of Liverpool there is an opportunity to apply for the Master of Architectural Design at XJTLU in Suzhou, near Shanghai in China. All courses are taught in English and the two year Master course offers excellent teaching and support facilities. The course received full RIBA validation in November 2017.

International qualifications

Applications from International Students with RIBA Part 1 are welcome. International qualifications will be evaluated in line with the National Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) guidelines.

English language qualifications

All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language and are required to provide evidence of this. Qualifications accepted by the University can be found on our International webpages. Please see www.liv.ac.uk/international for English Language requirements specific to your country.

If you meet the academic requirements of the course but do not have the required level of English Language, it is possible for you to come and study at the University on one of our Pre-sessional EAP programmes.  Please see the English Language Centre website for further information about these programmes; www.liv.ac.uk/english-language-centre/pre-sessional-eap.

If you require additional English Language training during your study, the University is able to provide tuition and arrange IELTS tests through its English Language Centre, details of which are available at www.liverpool.ac.uk/english-language-centre.

Please be advised that TOEFL is no longer classified by UK Visas and Immigration as a Secure English Language Test (SELT). However, at the current time the university is continuing to accept TOEFL, at the required level, for entry on to Undergraduate and Postgraduate academic programmes.
