What course are you currently studying?

Law, Medicine and Healthcare LLM

Why did you choose postgraduate study at the University of Liverpool?

I study Medicine at the University of Liverpool and have taken a year out to intercalate in Law. There was no question for me that Liverpool was the place I wanted to stay and study for another year. I love the city, the people and the welcoming vibe of the University. There is so much to do here from eating in independent cafes, to taking a scroll around Sefton park, visiting the cathedrals and museums and not forgetting the amazing nightlife. The University campus itself has everything and more that you need to study and socialise.

What’s the best thing about studying in your department?

I like that my course is completely centred around seminars. The seminars are a nice size so you feel comfortable contributing to discussion and can get involved so you're not just listening to someone talk for 2 hours. The tutors are extremely knowledgable in their areas of expertise and the module topics are extremely interesting.

How do the facilities in the University help you with your studies?

The library is fantastic. The online resources for accessing journals and cases is very helpful when it comes to writing essays. Most of the textbooks that you need for the course are available through the library.

What kind of support do you get from tutors?

My tutors this year have been invaluable. They are always happy to answer queries over email or to meet and discuss anthing I am unsure of. Especially when it has come to organising my disserttaion they have been a great support, both offering ideas and showing me how I can improve on my own.

What do you enjoy most about the whole experience?

I like the challenge of trying something new and learning different skills. I've really enjoyed hearing my peers opinions on controversial topics and reaching my own views following debates.

How do you believe undertaking postgraduate study will help your career prospects?

I believe this degree will help further my career. After rejoining my medical degree next year the LLM will help me in acquiring the job I desire when I graduate. It will also help later on in my career when I come to specialise. It also leaves the door open to other career paths should I ever change my mind.

What advice would you give to anybody considering postgraduate study?

I can't encourage people enough to take the leap and come to University. For me I found Universiy a life-changing experience. It's not just about getting a degree. You learn life skills, gain confidence and make lasting friendships. There is plenty of support and you won't know what you're capable of until you give it a try.
