A discursive investigation of leading in organisational conversations

Recent research in leadership has highlighted that leadership, rather than being best seen as an activity or personal quality, can be understood as a relationship.  However, the work that has been done in this area has tended to centre on leader activities, follower behaviour or structures of distributed leadership. This proposed work will look at how leading and following happens in work based conversations. The research methodology will be taken from a discourse analytic approach and will look at moment by moment way in which leadership is created. The research should contribute to the literatures on leader-follower relations.
