Why did you choose Law at the University of Liverpool?
To me, this law programme in the University of Liverpool has definitely expanded my views on diversity. It exposed me to different viewpoints, some of which I may agree too and some of which I won’t. In law, I remember learning this sacred notion that everyone has a right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. This term makes me love and believe in the fairness of law because I feel that law enables us human beings to differentiate right from wrong and as to what is fair, just and reasonable. This also gave me confidence because honestly speaking, law allows you to choose and argue on what you believe in is right provided you can justify it with sufficient evidence to prove it.
What have you enjoyed most about the programme so far?
The co-curricular activities I have taken part in have been amazing additions to my programme. In my second year, I completed a research internship through my course, and for the past two years I have been a course rep – both of which have been very rewarding and enjoyable experiences.
Moreover, I feel that studying law gives me an understanding of a wide range of fields. The University of Liverpool has a wide range of modules to choose from which allows me to develop my interest in almost anything. For example, I could learn about medicine by taking medical law or learn about companies and businesses by taking company law. Law allows me to widen my focus or horizon. Also what I love to believe is that most world leaders or policy makers have had a background in law and so my favourite part about it is that, someday I believe that I may be one of them too. It is not wrong to believe.
Are you involved in any clubs or societies? How do they add to your overall university experience, and what skills can you gain?
I am not a member in any clubs or society as I have only been here in UOL for a very short period of 8 months as I am a transfer student from Brickfields Asia College in Malaysia. I do however participate in the Hindu and Tamil Society events and gatherings. I have made a lot of friends and this society has indeed been a bridge to our friendship.
What do you like most about the city of Liverpool, and why?
I really enjoy the fact that Liverpool is a student friendly city because it has inexpensive shops, restaurants, supermarkets and places to visit. Almost everything is within walking distance. There are many tourist attractions with amazing architecture to explore and visit, such as the Anglican Cathedral, the Beatles museum, Albert Docks and many other exciting places. Not forgetting, Liverpool would not be anything if it is not for its amazing people. The citizens of Liverpool are super friendly and easy-going. Furthermore, it is a very conveniently located city. It is very close to Manchester and only 2 hours away from London. Liverpool is a city that has many faces indeed as in the night, the clubs and cocktail bars are the best place everyone wants to be in.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after graduation is to either complete my BPTC in London or to do the Malaysian CLP Examination (from September 2017 to May 2018). Following that, I would like to do my Chambering in Malaysia and work in an esteemed firm there.
