English Language Centre
The English Language Centre at the University of Liverpool provides specialist support for those whose first language is not English, need to attain a certain level for ongoing study, or who wish to continue to develop and refine their academic English.
Situated centrally on Abercromby Square, with access to all university facilities, the University of Liverpool English Language Centre is regularly inspected by an external body to ensure that it maintains the highest possible standards in all areas of its operation.
Pre-sessional English
Our Pre-Sessional English courses are designed for international students who wish to enter an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme at a British university, or who are holding an offer of study at the University of Liverpool. They are suitable for applicants who would like to ensure they have all the academic English and study skills they need to maximise their performance on their academic programme and for those who require help with meeting the English language requirements of their main programme.
Our Pre-Sessional course has six entry points depending on your current level of English and how long you need to study for.
If your offer is subject to proof of proficiency in English, successful completion of the course at the required level will allow you to progress to academic study at the University of Liverpool.
In-sessional English
The English Language Centre provides an extensive programme of free of charge English language support for students who are already studying at the University but who would like to further improve their use of academic English. Regular attendance can make a significant contribution to performance on your main study programme and help you achieve your full academic potential.
A recent survey of international students at the University (July 2023) found that 90% of those who had used the service thought that the classes and consultations had been useful and, of these, half found them more useful than expected.
