Programme     MSc Business Analytics and Big Data

Year of study   2017/2018

Nationality      South Korea

What have you enjoyed most about the programme so far?

The diversity of modules from several different programmes in the cohort helped me experience multiple approaches that are required for applications of business analytics in real practice. The projects and assignments during the course broadened my knowledge in the field and fundamental technical skills for data mining and machine learning or ERP system. However, the most enjoyable experience about this programme was when I was given the chance to participate in ExECS (Extracurricular engagement, careers, and skills). Several seminars, career events, and guest speakers for ExECS programme throughout semesters taught me deeper understanding of the industry which I couldn't learn from other lectures or assignments.

Are you involved in any clubs or societies? If so, how do they add to your overall university experience and what skills can you gain?

I joined the computer science club, one of the societies of the Liverpool Student Guild at the beginning of the course. Although I wasn't the active member of the club, I was able to gain wide range of information related to workplace opportunities and skills that the field expects to the graduates by attending several professional events that were arranged by the club. These were really helpful for me to have awareness about what to prepare or what to study further. International student ambassador was another greatest experience I have had from the university. This has provided me with chance to meet with many other students from different courses, nationalities and backgrounds, not limited to those of my major. I have really enjoyed learning the cultural diversity and socialising with other ambassadors.

What do you like most about the City of Liverpool and why?  What fun things have you experienced since being in Liverpool?

My favourite part about the city Liverpool is that it has quiet yet lively atmosphere. It is never too crowded but always full of fun events and festivals all year round. Many pubs, bars, restaurants, and clubs are located along the beautiful river and dock area thus you can enjoy the day when the weather is sunny. People frequently asked me if the city is safe enough, then my answer has been a big YES. From the campus to the city centre, I always feel free to walk around or hang out with friends even at night. Moreover, it is perfect to enjoy a short trip when you want some fresh air since the city gets you a good access to many touristy areas or other cities nearby including Formby & Crosby, Southport, Chester, Manchester, etc.

What are your plans after graduation?

After finishing my dissertation, I will relocate myself to one of the Middle East countries to commence a new chapter of my life. It will be a great challenge to continue my career in the whole new world, but I have got confidence in my extended knowledge and skills thanks to learning and experiences from the University of Liverpool. I believe that the strong international reputation of the University of Liverpool as part of the Russell group will open many doors for me in the professional world and ensure me a good job
