COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 has caused lots of disruption to Study Abroad activities, but the Team is still working hard to allow as much mobility as possible to go ahead. You can see all the most important COVID-19 updates below.

Contacting the Team

The Team are all working from home and this will likely continue for the rest of this semester. However, you can still contact us via email and telephone. See the Contact Us page for more details.

We are also running drop-in sessions Monday-Thursday, 10am-11am, 2pm-3pm via Zoom.

Please note that the 0151-795-5508 number will not be operational during this period.

Outbound students

Study Abroad in 2020/21 Academic Year

We have cancelled all mobilities to countries outside of the EU for Semester 1 of the 2020/21 academic year. Students due to go on a Semester Abroad have been offered an alternative Semester 2 placement. Modern Language students have been contacted by MLC and the Study Abroad Team to discuss the alternative arrangements we have developed. We've also put in place an enhanced risk assessment process for all mobilities, as your wellbeing is our priority.

It's really important that you keep a close eye on your Liverpool emails, as this is where we'll send important updates.

For Summer Abroad 2021, we'll only be advertising and supporting virtual activities. Applications for Summer Abroad will launch a little bit later than usual, check back on the search tool for information on which programmes will be available.

Study Abroad in 2021/22 Academic Year

COVID-19 is a rapidly changing situation so we can't guarantee what Study Abroad opportunities will go ahead in the 2021/22 academic year, so it's important that everyone accepts that plans and available options will be subject to change or cancellation.

However, we are hopeful that Study Abroad opportunities from Semester 1 2021 onwards will go ahead as normal. So, with that in mind, we’re intending to open up applications for Semester Abroad and Year in China in November, and you’ll be able to find out more about them throughout Semester 1 of the current academic year. Keep an eye on the Study Abroad web pages and your UoL email for further information.

We'll also be in touch with Law, Engineering and MLC students due to go on a Year Abroad in 2021/22 later in the semester with further information on how to get the process started.

For Summer Abroad 2021, we'll only be advertising and supporting virtual activities. Applications for Summer Abroad will launch a little bit later than usual, check back on the search tool for information on which programmes will be available.

We're hopeful that Summer Abroad 2022 will go ahead without disruption.

Inbound Students

Semester/Year exchange and study abroad

The Academic Year 2020/21 began on 5th October with Foundation Week and we were excited to welcome inbound students who joined us this semester. We've got lots of virtual activities planned to help you meet each other and make friends, beyond your household bubbles.

Likewise, we're hoping that Semester 2 will also go ahead as normal. It's likely we'll still have some COVID-19 adjustments in place and you can read about our current precautions here. So, if you are applying to come to Liverpool for an exchange or study abroad, we look forward to receiving your Semester 2 application once Stage 2 opens in September.

Summer Programmes

We are already planning for both the International Summer School and the Summer Research Projects to go ahead for Summer 2021. More information will be available from November onwards - we'll send this directly to our partner universities, so please register any interest in our summer programmes with your home university Study Abroad Team. Information will also be available on our website, so check back for future updates.

Unfortunately, we don't have access to scanners or printers during this period of home working. If you need a document signed, please get in touch with the Team to discuss alternative methods of providing you with the documentation you need.

If you are an Outbound student and are preparing to participate in a Semester Abroad or a Year Abroad at university, then in lieu of the Course Approval form, you can upload an email from your IOA with the modules listed and their confirmation to Mobility-Online.

Keeping yourself informed

In order to help us help you, please ensure that you carefully read everything that we send you before reaching out with questions. If you are an Outbound student, please also read any information from your host university/host organisation. If you are an Inbound students then please also read any information from your home university. It's also important to share any updates from the Team with your parents and supporters, so that they are kept informed.

Whilst this is still a challenging time for everyone, we will work together to ensure as many mobilities as possible can safely go ahead.
