Tier 4 visas and collection of BRP's
The purpose of the vignette is to allow you to enter the UK to collect your biometric residence permit (BRP) which is your full UK visa. This 30 days will begin one month before the start date of your academic course and expire on the start date of your course (or from the date that your visa is issued if you apply later than one month before the start date of your course). If you do not travel to the UK during this 30 day period then your vignette will expire and you will need to apply for another 30-day vignette if you still wish to travel to the UK. Your 30-day vignette will be accompanied by a confirmation letter that will tell you where and when to collect your BRP. When you enter the UK you should show the border force officer your 30-day vignette and the confirmation letter.
When you are sent your CAS statement you may be given a code by the University to enter onto your visa application to specify that you want to collect your BRP on the University campus; this will be confirmed on the letter given to you when you are issued with your 30-day vignette. Further information is given below about collecting your BRP on campus.
Tier 4 Dependants’ visas
You must not input this code if you are bringing dependants with you to the UK. This is because unfortunately the University is not able to distribute cards to family members. You and your dependant(s) should instead collect your BRPs at a local Post Office. The nearest participating Post Office will be assigned to you when you apply for your visa based on your postcode. The Post Office details will be stated on the letter given to you when you are issued with your 30-day vignette.
Students not issued with a code
Students who are not issued with a code by the University should also collect their BRP at their specified local Post Office. The nearest participating Post Office will be assigned to you when you apply for your visa based on your postcode. The Post Office details will be stated on the letter given to you when you are issued with your 30-day vignette.
You must collect your BRP within ten days of arriving in the UK. If you do not collect your BRP within ten days of arriving in the UK you may have to pay a fine and/or your visa may be cancelled.
Collecting your BRP on Campus
If you have entered the code into your visa application to opt to collect your BRP on campus, it will be available for collection from Sunday 15th September 2019. You will need to book an appointment to collect your BRP and you will be sent an e-mail with a secure link to book this online. BRP collection from the University will be at the GFLEX.
