To introduce you to the positive and beneficial effects of relaxation techniques, the staff of the University of Liverpool Counselling Service have produced audio for streaming and download offering you the possibility of practising some basic elements in relaxation.

All students undergo stress, most of which is completely manageable. Sometimes, however, the effects of stress can prove to be detrimental to health, to relationships with others and to academic work. One way of achieving the right balance is by raising our self-awareness so that we are able to recognise and monitor the effects of stress on our well-being.
The relaxation exercises on the audio have been specifically designed to help control and lessen the effects of the tensions and anxieties with which life can present us.
We cannot change the questions on the exam paper but regular practice of the techniques outlined can lead to the development of better coping strategies and an increase of self-esteem and feeling of well-being.
