Transferring to a different course

‌‌You may feel that you have chosen the wrong course and want to transfer to another programme of study, within the same School, or into an entirely new area of study.

Things to consider before you make the decision to Transfer

Financial Implications

You will need to take into account any possible financial issues that may arise if you do change your programme.  Before you make your decision, you must contact the Student Loans Company if you receive funding from them, or any sponsor who assists you with payment of fees or maintenance funding.  You can also speak with the Money Advice and Guidance Team in Student Services and the Careers and Employability Service for further advice.

Visa Implications

If you intend to transfer to a different course of study before completing your current course and your current visa is not long enough to complete it, you will need to apply for a new visa before the transfer can take place.  In the majority of cases, this visa application will need to take place outside the UK.

Sometimes when students receive their examination results and are not making good progress, the School may recommend that you change to a different course.  When you receive your results it is important to keep in mind that, if changing course is a recommendation that is given to you, you would need to plan a trip home to extend your visa

As part of transfer process you will need to visit the International Advice and Guidance Team for advice, you will be informed when to do this.  Further information can be found on our Student Services website.

XJTLU 2+2 student transfer back to XJTLU

If you are on the dual degree with XJTLU as a 2+2 student you may, in exceptional circumstances, request to transfer back to XJTLU if you have grounds that your personal, financial or medical circumstances are likely to prevent you from continuing to study at the University of Liverpool.

We advise you to discuss this with your School, Personal Tutor or Student Support Officer first. We also advise that you read the Policy for XJTLU transfers to ensure you would be eligible.

If you do decide you would like to request a transfer back to XJTLU then you will need to complete the XJTLU transfer form and have this approved by your current School.
