Women's Rugby Union

Welcome to the University Women's Rugby Union team

Want to try a new hobby or further develop your abilities? Women’s Rugby Union offers a unique sporting opportunity. We accept ladies of any skill level offering opportunities to develop your talents and fitness no matter the experience. So, whether you're looking to pursue rugby or simply want to make friends, we'd love to meet you!

Competitive

LUWRU 1st and 2nd teams compete in British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) every Wednesday. Our 1st team has maintained their position in the Northern League 1A. Our Women’s 2nd team also maintained their position in the Northern 3A.

We also compete in Varsity, Christie Cup, and socially in 7's tournaments.

We train at Wyncote Sports Grounds on Mondays and Fridays on 3G and grass pitches and have two dedicated coaches.

Performance

The rugby 1st team is dedicated to becoming skillful and fit to ensure they are competitive in division 1 in the BUCS league. They have strength and conditioning training each week as well as several training sessions run by their coach. They travel all over the north of England and hope to consolidate their position in division 1 this season.

Social events

Although rugby is our prime focus, the team’s social side is just as important. With regular nights out every Wednesday, wacky fancy dress, annual dinners and an overseas tour, the social life is one of the best things about the university experience. Once a month we take part in the Athletic Union fancy dress nights which is known to be the best night in our social calendar and exclusive to sports teams.
