Taekwon-Do is one of the most popular martial arts in the world.  It combines combat and self-defence techniques with sport and exercise. There is an emphasis on high kicking and fast hand techniques thrown from a mobile stance. Taekwon-Do is popular with people of both genders and all ages. Our club practices GTF Taekwon-Do.

The guiding principle of Taekwon-Do is that the practitioner should not attack, unless first confronted by an attack.

The Taekwon-Do Philosophy can be summed up by the 5 tenets of Tae Kwon Do:

A class includes an aerobic workout followed by intensive stretching before focusing on one or two specific areas such as:

We offer opportunities to grade several times a year allowing you to progress during your time at university. Grading tests your understanding of Taekwon-Do and your skill in various aspects of the art.

The BUTL is the first official league catering for and representing Taekwondo in the UK. Allowing university clubs to compete in a league based tournament running throughout the year, providing promotion and further progress within the art while adding to the social and competitive side of University based Taekwondo clubs and affiliations. The BUTL offers league's, traditional seminars, fight camp seminars, a University Cup and University Individual Championships. 

The BUTL is set up with one set of Taekwondo rules but incorporated all elements to apply to all styles and is open to all uni clubs, we feature both ITF and WTF university teams.
