The Squash Club is a thriving community consisting of players of all abilities, degree subjects and age groups. Squash is a racket sport played by two (singles) or four players (doubles) in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball. The players must alternate in striking the ball with their racket and hit the ball onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court. The objective of the game is to out run/manoeuvre your opponent(s) and be first to score 11 points. Squash was in the running to be an Olympic Sport for 2020 but narrowly missed out and is considered one of the world’s healthiest sports!
Want to hone your skills and play for a team?
We host some very competent players, some of whom play to county and regional level. We have coaching once a week, as well as weekend fitness sessions to make sure we stay on form. In the 2014-15 season we will have three men’s teams and a women’s team. We plan to expand our reach and play games against local clubs by competing in local Merseyside leagues as well as competing in the British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league and knock-out competition.
Want a friendly knock about with players of all abilities?
We also provide social drop-in sessions for those who would prefer a non-competitive knock about. Join the club and benefit from these Friday evening and Sunday afternoon sessions. What’s more, you can enjoy our famous socials and make new friends!
Want to learn the basics?
We offer beginner’s squash sessions with our exceptional team coach in conjunction with England Squash. Join the club and benefit from seven coaching sessions, a free T-shirt, squash ball and bag.
And finally…the socials!
We are always a ‘work hard, play hard’ club and enjoy a busy social year; with Christmas and End-of Season meals, take away nights and cinema trips, a Mixed Doubles, Open and Handicap Tournament Melee, as well as attending every AU night and the AU ball… we certainly have kept a fine balance between the training and the fun!
So if you’ve been playing Squash for years, have never tried it before or are somewhere in between (like most of us!) there’ll be someone to play at a similar level to you- join our taster sessions in September or feel free to contact one of the committee and most importantly join our Facebook page called ‘UoL Squash Club 2014/2015’!
