There are plenty of opportunities to play football whilst you are at University. Male, female, indoor or outdoor on grass or on Astroturf; we have a wide selection to suit your needs.
The University of Liverpool Men’s Football Club is one of the largest clubs at the University, with an average of 80 member we have 4 teams competing on Wednesday’s in the BUCS leagues. The 1st and 2nd team take part in two event throughout the academic year. The first is ‘Varsity’ an event in which we take on the other half of the city LJMU in all sports, we always win overall however our footballing form could improve. The second and larger of the two is The Christie Cup, a tournament played between ourselves, Leeds and Manchester. Our University hasn't won this since 1991, but football as an event is something we have always been strong in.
The 1st team stayed in their league after a tough season of results. They did however beat both Leeds and Manchester University in their Christie Cup event. The 1st team can now build of this and hopefully challenge for the title to regain their spot in 1A.
Our 2nd team had a strong season having an excellent cup run but sadly lost in the quarter finals in a tight game that finished 1-0. They also just missed out on promotion on the last day of BUC’s fixtures, so next season their aim is to win promotion to 2A and join the 1st team. The seconds also won their events in the Christie Cup and Varsity.
The 3rd team were our most successful team last season after winning their respective cup competition and also finishing a close second in the league, so promotion will be on the cards for next season. This success was due to a scouse captain in Luke Killen, at our annual AU (Athletic Union) Ball he won ‘Athletic Union Member of The Year’ this award is very prestigious and is something the club are very proud of, after all there’re over 3000 AU members!!
The fourth team after being promoted in the previous season managed to win their relegation battle and stay up!!
We are always looking for new talented footballers to strengthen our strong squads. We will be holding trials the weekend of freshers week. Details of which will be posted nearer to the time of the event by our twitter page. Please follow us @LUMFC
If you keen to be selected, especially for those who hope to play in the 1st team we would recommend you join us for preseason training in early September, to do so contact our 1st Captain or Club President with your playing experience and level.
If you have questions about our club please don't hesitate to email our committee members listed on this page.
