Christie 2018 - Futsal
“We lost five minutes concentration – that's the difference”
Liverpool's Men’s Futsal team drew 4-4 with Manchester on Sunday afternoon, before later going down 7-3 at the hands of Leeds, with all matches a part of the Christie Championships 2018.
Following Liverpool's draw with Manchester, the team were happy with the point, but were frustrated that they could not take the victory despite Rob Harrison only equalising late on for the hosts.
Liverpool player Munir Ghailan said: “To be honest, I think we had a lot of chances. We just missed them. When it doesn’t want to go in, it doesn’t want to go in.
“We deserved this win, to be honest, but 4-4 – Futsal is like this. We just didn’t take our chances, but it was a good game. We could have scored more, and conceded less!
“We were a bit soft in defence this time, and we’ll try and improve next time. Our keeper (Talaz Alenezi) was outstanding – a very good performance.”
Leeds then narrowly defeated Manchester by five goals to four, before Liverpool were beaten 7-3 by the Yorkshire side.
Following the defeat to Leeds, Mohamed Hafez said: “It was a good game. We did well, we just lost five minutes concentration, and three goals [went in]. That's the difference.
“Also, because this game is our first after Easter, we have only had one training session, and we don’t have our fitness back.”
He was annoyed that Liverpool had taken too many risks during the game, which left them exposed against an experienced and difficult opponent.
He added: “Sometimes we take a risk and play long balls, and we find ourselves with two players out of the game.
“We improved a bit [from the first game] but as I said, we have lost concentration – if it wasn’t for the five minutes, it would be 4-3. Instead, it’s 7-3. We tried to come back, but it’s so hard to come back [from that scoreline].”
