Science and Engineering boasts excellent resources so you can achieve the highest potential in learning or research. These include:

Active Learning Laboratory

Our innovative Active Learning Laboratory, one of the largest and best equipped laboratories in Europe, provides space for engineering students to design, build and test. Students engage in team and project work which, includes our entry to Formula Student. The exterior of the laboratory is lit with hundreds of LEDs and can be seen as far away as Wirral.

The Central Teaching Laboratories

‌The Central Teaching Laboratories (CTL) consolidates much of the practical undergraduate teaching within Science and Engineering. In 2013, the Guardian University Awards named the CTL as the University facilities winner. The facility comprises specialist laboratories for Engineering, Chemistry, Physics and the Environmental Sciences. Find out more

Student Incubation Unit

The Student Incubation Unit is part of a package set up to support the budding entrepreneurs amongst the students studying Computer Science, Electronics or related disciplines. Other elements of the package include mentoring by an industrialist and a grant of up to £500 for components and other costs. So far, a number of bright ideas have been supported including an aquarium monitoring system aimed at both people who keep pet fish at home and fish farm businesses and an electronic glove for converting British Sign Language into audible speech.
