Liverpool academics named in global list of influential researchers

Seven of the University of Liverpool’s top academics have been named on the Highly Cited Researchers 2020 list from Clarivate.

The highly anticipated annual list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index.

The methodology that determines the “who’s who” of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information™ at Clarivate. It also uses the tallies to identify the countries and research institutions where these scientific elite are based.

The Liverpool researchers featured on the this year's list are:

Professor Andy Cooper, Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Materials Innovation Factory

Dr Quinn Gibson, Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry

Dr Lin Jiang, Reader in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics

Professor Gregory Lip, Price-Evans Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and Director of the Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

Professor David MacEwan, Chair of Molecular Pharmacology in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, David Weatherall Chair in Medicine and Director of the MRC Centre for Drug Safety Science in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

Professor John Wilding, Professor of Medicine in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

Professor Anthony Hollander, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Impact at the University of Liverpool, said: “It is fantastic to see Liverpool so well represented on this prestigious list of influential researchers.
