Pain Management Clinic

The pain management service at the hospital is dedicated to increasing the quality of life of animals with chronic pain. This is an area of increasing interest to the veterinary profession, as the range of treatment options becomes greater, and more is known about the physiology of pain. Our ability to recognise, diagnose and subsequently treat pain means that animals do not have to suffer in silence. We assess behavioural changes, alterations in sleeping patterns and other subtle changes that might indicate pain, as well as more obvious clinical signs such as lameness.

Treatments can range from pain-relieving medications, to acupuncture, physiotherapy and environmental adaptations such as the use of ramps, steps and recommendation of particular diets.

Animals are referred to the pain clinic through other departments such as internal medicine and oncology.
