Working with Industry

Exchanging knowledge and expertise, education and training are an integral part of the Institute of Risk & Uncertainty and accelerate the utilisation of our research achievements in the public and private sectors.

We work closely with industry, business and Government to develop applications, products, technologies, processes, techniques, policy and services.

This is realised with specialised and cross-disciplinary projects within a global collaborative network, including partners such as: Rolls Royce, Airbus, Areva, Banco Santander, BNP Paribas, the National Nuclear Laboratory, ARUP, national and international police forces, Swiss Re, Barnett-Waddingham, Aspen and EDF Energy.

Collaboration includes:

  • Joint research grant proposals and projects
  • Collaborative or contract research projects
  • Consultancy (including testing services)
  • Facilities and training services

Postgraduate education and training at PhD levels

We are also committed to developing multidisciplinary master programmes, giving our students a broad perspective across disciplines complemented by specialised knowledge in specifically selected disciplines with close links to one another.

Cross-disciplinary PhD projects with industry and international research collaboration connect to these master programmes.

Bespoke programmes tailored to industry needs can be developed, including PhD projects and work placements. This allows your company to benefit from a high calibre student cohort with relevant experience to your industry, on a temporary basis or eventually leading on to full time postgraduate employment.
