Edoardo Patelli

Lecturer in Uncertainty and Engineering

Biography

Dr Edoardo Patelli is a member of the Institute for Risk and Uncertainty and the Centre for Engineering Sustainability at the University of Liverpool. He graduated in "Nuclear Engineering" at the Polytechnic of Milan (Italy) in 1999. Later, he worked as an assistant researcher in the group of Professor Marzio Marseguerra and Enrico Zio at the same Institute. He then carried out his doctoral work in "Radiation Science and Technology" at the Polytechnic of Milan. In 2006 he moved as research associate at the University of Innsbruck (Austria) in the group of Professor Schuëller where he became the group leader in 2009. Starting form September 2011 he is a lecturer at the University of Liverpool.

Dr. Patelli's primary research interests focus on the general area of risk analysis, uncertainty modelling and quantification, sensitivity analysis, optimization, reliability and availability of complex systems. His current activities deal with issues of the interface between theoretical basic research, application oriented developments and numerical implementations. In the area of basic research, the focus is on the development of advanced stochastic computational methods for uncertainty quanti fications and generalised probabilistic methods, reliability analysis and risk assessment and management. The developed procedures have been applied in di fferent areas of safety and risk analysis in civil engineering as well as in nuclear engineering and aerospace. The numerical implementations have been resulted in the development of a general purpose software package for uncertainty quantifi cation and stochastic analysis (COSSAN-X).
