Through the Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) and internationally recognised expertise in materials chemistry, robotics, AI, advanced manufacturing, biomaterials and biofilms, we are transforming how materials are discovered, developed, and translated into real-world applications.
Our researchers work at the convergence of autonomous experimentation, machine learning, engineering, microbiology and healthcare technologies, supported by strong industrial partnerships and an interdisciplinary culture. We host major research centres including the Leverhulme Research Centre for Functional Materials Design, the Albert Crewe Centre for Electron Microscopy, EPSRC AIChemy Hub and co-lead the National Biofilm Innovation Centre. Our Centre for Long-Acting Therapeutics - Global Health, along with our world-leading expertise in bioengineering, eye and vision science, and musculoskeletal biology, are harnessing interdisciplinary approaches to address major health and environmental challenges.
