    About

    Personal Statement

Suzie is a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in qualitative methods and ethnographic approaches to studies of health inequalities. Her main area of research is gastrointestinal infections and she also has a research interest in the intersection between the health and wellbeing of human and non-human animals. As a post-doctoral researcher Suzie is involved in a number of research projects including: exploring resilience in local health protection systems in an age of austerity and pandemic; examining socio-economic inequalities in the impact of exclusions due to STE infection; exploring the 'risk' of infectious diseases on petting farms; and collaborating with the public to improve the accessibility of pathogen genomic data visualistion. Suzie’s PhD in gastrointestinal infections used an ethnographic approach to critically examine the dominant individualistic approach to GI infections in the community and illuminate socio-economic inequalities in GI infections for families with young children. Prior to her PhD, Suzie explored the contribution of care farming to the health and well-being of people with a learning disability in the UK. Before starting her postgraduate studies, Suzie worked as a veterinary surgeon in a variety of clinical practices in the UK and overseas and is a Bristol veterinary school graduate.
