    Personal Statement

I am a researcher with a focus on the relationship between mental health and harmful behaviours and an interest in improving care and treatment in inpatient mental health services. I lead a research programme on these topics and collaborate closely with local mental health service providers. I am an Honorary Research Fellow at Mersey Care NHS Trust, a Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and a Research Adviser to St. Olav's University Hospital, Trondheim. I am also an HPC-registered forensic psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. I came to Liverpool University in 2000 after training in psychology, mental health nursing and research methods in London and Manchester, and following a period of teaching and researching in Chester. I became part of the Institute of Psychology, Health and Society when it was established in 2011 and have worked with others to develop a programme of collaborative mental health research projects at local, national and international levels using both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
