    Personal Statement

I am a researcher specialising in non-communicable diseases, with interests in the food environment and population and policy aspects of obesity and Type 2 diabetes. I am interested in applying public health interventions to tackle them.

I obtained my first degree (MSc) in Biology from Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Poland. Later I achieved a PhD in Biological Anthropology from the Coimbra University in Portugal, studying socioeconomic and environmental risk factors of asthma and obesity as well as the role of gene-environment interaction in their aetiology.

In 2015 I joined the Liverpool School of Tropical medicine studying malnutrition, obesity, metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes in Brazil and Nigeria. In 2018 I became part of the Appetite and Obesity research group to assist in launching the Adwareness project, exploring the awareness and risks associated with children’s exposure to digital food marketing on social media. Currently, I am working on the study exploring the nutritional labelling in the out-of-home sector.
