This ESRC-funded research project is a collaboration between Dr Oisin Tansey (PI) of King's College London, Dr Sarah von Billerbeck (Co-I) from the University of Reading and Dr Birte Gippert (Co-I) from the University of Liverpool. The project runs from 2018 to 2021 and investigates the mechanisms through which UN peacebuilding operations enable or hinder democratization in host states. The study analyses four different cases of UN peacebuilding which are ranked very differently in terms of their democracy scores and traces the causal impact of UN peacebuilding through various mechanisms. The case study are: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Liberia, and Cambodia.
