Survey of the Democratic Unionist Party in Northern Ireland

About the Project

Professor Jon Tonge was Principal Investigator on a Leverhulme Trust (£90,000) funded membership survey of the Democratic Unionist Party, the largest party in Northern Ireland.

The study in 2012-14 involved a quantitative examination of the demographics and attitudes of the entire party membership and a qualitative survey, based on interviews with:

  • All DUP Members of Parliament
  • Northern Ireland Assembly members
  • Councillors
  • Ordinary members.

No previous survey of the party’s entire membership had been undertaken.
