INAUGURAL LECTURE: Professor Simon Maskell

Professor of Autonomous Systems, Simon Maskell, will be giving an Inaugural Lecture on Thursday, 18 October.
His lecture entitled Samples of the past, the present and an uncertain future will be given in the Electrical Engineering & Electronics Lecture Theatre (ELT) at 6pm and will be followed by a networking reception.
Professor Maskell sits at the interface between Computer Science, Engineering and Statistics. His research interests are focused on developing ground-breaking algorithmic solutions that can be translated into tangible advantage across multiple sectors in both industry and government.
He is the academic lead for the £4M `Big Hypotheses: A Fully Parallelised Bayesian Inference Solution’ research project that aims to harness the power of emerging hardware (such as graphics cards) to significantly reduce the time it takes to unlock the latent value present in difficult data sets. Funded by EPSRC, this project involves a number of partners including the Science and Technology Funding Council’s Hartree Centre and IBM Research.
Professor Maskell is also the Director of the Liverpool Big Data Network and affiliated to both the Centre for Autonomous System Technologies and the Institute for Risk and Uncertainty.
