Talk: Audiology - Breaking the sound barrier
"Blindness cuts one off from things, but deafness cuts one off from people" - Helen Keller. Hearing loss affects 1 in 6 in the UK and is associated with isolation and dementia. Technological advances have led to a remarkable ability to restore functional hearing to deaf people with cochlear implants. This talk describes the pioneering implant work performed in audiology in Manchester for over 30 years.
