Dr Daniel Hill in the cross-party debate, 'Free Speech: How far is too far?'

On 10 May 2018 Lecture Theatre 8 in the Rendall Building on campus was packed with a crowd of students, staff, and visitors that had come to hear a round-table discussion on free speech.

The four speakers were, in order of appearance, Dr Gemma Bird from the Department of Politics, Alisha Lewis, 2nd-year undergraduate studying Politics and Philosophy and Liberal-Democrat candidate for Mossley Hill ward, Lee Rowley MP, Conservative MP for North East Derbyshire, and Dr Daniel Hill from the Department of Philosophy. In the chair was Rebecca Lowe, Director of new think-tank FREER.

After the four short speeches there was lively discussion, including questions from Philosophy undergraduates.

Many thanks to Dr David Jeffery from Politics for organizing a stimulating evening of thought-provoking discussion.
