The following programme was delivered in 2014-2015 and preceding years.  This programme was replaced in 2015-16 by a new programme managed by the Liverpool Doctoral College.

All PGRs are now expected to complete a Development Needs Analysis and, in consultation with their supervisor, to produce a personal training plan.

PGR Development Programme 2014-2015

All postgraduate research students (PGR) studying for a PhD/MPhil or MD are required to complete the PGR Development Programme summarised here. See also the timelines for specific profiles below.

PhD students are required to complete the 5 part Programme, which aims to help develop essential skills for their research and future career.

1. The Record of Supervisory meetings, to regularly record formal meetings with your supervisors.
2. The PGR Portfolio of activity, to record your professional activities relevant to your development
There are a choice of workshops on campus and an online option for those unable to attend the Liverpool workshops
There is an annual event in Liverpool and an online option for those unable to attend on campus
There are a range of options from an online course, workshops, enterprise competitions or you can use self-selected voluntary activities or work experience.

MPhil students are required to complete the following three components normally taken by PhD students in their first year,

1. The Record of Supervisory meetings, to regularly record formal meetings with your supervisors.
2. The PGR Portfolio of activity, to record your professional activities relevant to your development

MD  students are expected to follow the same Skills programme for a PhD, but they may follow the options and time-line for part-time students :

1. The Record of Supervisory meetings, to regularly record formal meetings with your supervisors.
2. The PGR Portfolio of activity, to record your professional activities relevant to your development
As part-time students, MD students are eligible to attend the online option if that is preferred over workshops.
MD students are expected to attend the event on campus, or they can apply for the online alternative if they are based off-site.
MD students are normally eligible for exemption from Career Development,
