LDC Development Booking and Attendance Policy

The LDC Development Team are committed to providing a programme of tailored, high-quality personal and professional development opportunities and support for all Postgraduate Researchers at the University of Liverpool.

Also we ask all Postgraduate researchers to contribute to the smooth running and fairness of the programme by adhering to the following booking policy:

Booking Process
Our workshops are delivered by expert facilitators from across the University and externally in order to support your research, professional development and employability goals.

To book a place onto one of our events, please consult the LDC Development Programme timetable webpage and click the booking link on the event title (where available) to submit the short event booking form via Eventbrite. Places on events will be confirmed by email also through the online booking system Eventbrite.

Workshop numbers are capped and places are allocated on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.

Please use your University of Liverpool email to register on Eventbrite. We reserve the right to remove registrations of attendees who do not appear to be members of this University.

If an event is fully booked, you will be offered the chance to go on a waiting list. Waiting list offers expire after 12 hours, if not claimed so it is important to check your student email regularly.

Following your booking:
1.    Once you have booked your place you are expected to attend for the full duration of the workshop.

Add the date and time of each event you book into your diary and inform your supervisor. This will help you meet commitments as part of your training agreement and ensure you avoid arranging conflicting meetings on that date.

2.    We will email you further event information, no later than 5 days before the event takes place, followed by a short reminder email before the event starts.

3.    For in-person events we provide a sandwich lunch at our full day events, which will include a standard vegetarian option. If you have specific dietary requirements, please inform us at least 5 days before the workshop and we will endeavour to meet these requirements (subject to consultation with the University Catering team).

4.    For online events, once registered, participants will receive detailed pre-session information and access instructions to join the virtual live webinar/workshops.

Attendance - On the day of the event:
Please arrive punctually at the start of each workshop. In certain circumstances, we may be able to accept late arrivals, but only if you inform us in advance. Please do not turn up to courses unless you have received a relevant booking confirmation.

Cancellation of Booking

All workshops have a limited number of places – if you book a place and do not attend, this may prevent another researcher from taking up that place.
We ask that participants do not book on an event unless they are certain that you can attend.

Cancelling the workshop booking: If you realise that your attendance is going to be impossible please log in to Eventbrite and cancel your booking/order.
Please do so as early as possible (and at least 72 hours prior to the event date) so that we can offer your place to another researcher.

We hope all researchers will want to help us run this programme efficiently. We appreciate that many of our attendees have no problem with these arrangements. By following this policy, participants will help ensure that another researcher has the opportunity to take a vacant training place and to avoid resource wastage (admin, consultancy fees, catering and workshop materials).

Late Cancellations

We understand that there may be exceptional instances where you are unable to give us three days’ notice, such as urgent personal/home issues. In those circumstances, please notify LDC Development Team by emailing ldcdevelopment@liverpool.ac.uk as soon as possible.

Non-attendance

Please note that making bookings and not turning up on the day prevents others from attending.  We maintain attendance registers for all our events and non-attendance is monitored.  Many of our workshops are extremely popular and are fully booked well in advance and we also manage waiting lists.

To be fair to all researchers who want to attend our workshops, and to meet University expectations, we will need to enforce an attendance policy. Where Postgraduate researchers consistently fail to attend workshops on which they are booked, or repeatedly cancel bookings with very short notice, we may restrict their attendance at future workshops to ensure equality of opportunity for all researchers. We may also inform their supervisor and department as appropriate.

If your non-attendance is due to exceptional circumstances, including bereavement, illness or, emergencies in your work, please notify us by emailing  ldcdevelopment@liverpool.ac.uk at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for your continued support.
