I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2008 with a degree in Medical Biochemistry and then went on to complete a research Masters at the University of Edinburgh. My PhD at the University of Liverpool investigated the function of the pro-metastatic protein chaperone AGR2 in breast cancer, and it is here that I had my first experience with mass spectrometry (and the CPR): with additional money from a small MRC grant, I was able to compare the secretomes of AGR2-positive and –negative cells to gain a better understanding of AGR2-driven metastasis.

For my first postdoc position, I spent one year defining the role of another pro-metastatic protein, S100P, in plasminogen-dependent tumour cell invasion, largely using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis. During my second postdoc (also at Liverpool), I worked on a Muscular Dystrophy Association-funded project exploring the role of neutrophil elastase in the pathology of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Here I was again involved with the CPR on a second branch of this project, using LC-MS/MS to search for novel blood-based markers of DMD.

I joined the CPR in November 2018 and am currently working on a North West Cancer-funded project, looking at non-canonical phosphorylation in different human cancer models.
