New paper on glycan arrays from Eyers team

Claire Eyers, Jerry Turnbull and colleagues in the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology have recently published a paper in Analytical Chemistry describing a ‘Label-Free Discovery Array Platform for the Characterisation of Glycan Binding Proteins and Glycoproteins’.
Methods to define carbohydrate-protein interactions are essential to understand the central biological roles of these complex biomolecules. The article by Gray et al., describes a mass spectrometry-based approach for the identification of carbohydrate binding proteins from complex biological mixtures using an array of simple glycans, more complex natural glycosaminoglycans, or lectins. Crucially, this strategy does not require additional functionalization or labelling of either the carbohydrate or the protein binding parterns. This technology will thus be a powerful addition to the limited toolbox for glycomics analysis.
