Institute of Oceanology - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR) is a national research institution (non-profit governmental corporation) established in 1967 to generate knowledge for the sustainable use and protection of Israel's marine, coastal and freshwater resources. The IOLR includes three research centers, 1) The National Institute of Oceanography in Haifa, 2) The Yigal Allon Kinneret Limnological Laboratory near Tiberias, 3) The National Center for Mariculture in Eilat. IOLR has a staff of approximately 180 scientists, engineers, technicians and support personnel. In addition, graduate students and visiting scientists from Israel and abroad are involved in the activities of IOLR's research centers.

Key Personnel

Dr Bella Galil is a Senior Scientist with the National Institute of Oceanography, Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR), and heads the scientific committee of the National Parks and Nature reserves Authority, Israel, and a member of governmental committees on fisheries and nature conservation. She has over 190 journal publications in the peer reviewed literature and has been responsible for major research and monitoring contracts in the Mediterranean Sea. Research interests include studies on marine biology with emphasis on decapod crustacean taxonomy and biology; dynamics/ conservation of marine biodiversity, anthropogenic changes of macrobenthic ecology in coastal and deep waters, and invasive species.
